The republic of Lebanon maintains a privileged relationship with UNESCO. It has five sites listed on the UNESCO WORLD Heritage List: Aanjar, Baalbeck, Byblos, Tyre and the ensemble composed of the Holy Valley of Qadisha and the nearby Forest of the Cedars. Each World Heritage Site is the property of the country in whose territory the site is located, but it is considered in the interest of the international community to preserve each site for future generation of humanity. The protection and conservation of these sites are a concern of all the World Heritage countries.
